If you haven’t heard by now, Kendrick Lamar recently dropped a new album titled “DAMN,” and it has already been a hit amongst the millennial generation. Now don’t get me wrong, others, young and old, have found interest in this album as well. I do think, in my own opinion, that this album is very popular in the basic white girl crowd. In order to explain my theory of basic white girls gravitating toward this album, I find it fitting to share a story from today in class. One of my professors likes to share a song at the beginning of each class that fits with the lecture of that day. Today he played the song “PRIDE” from Kendrick’s new album to help us think of the pride and arrogance of the people of Judah from the books Habakkuk and Zephaniah. One of my classmates started the discussion with the statement, “So yeah I have listened to his new album and I love it.” (“Okay, so what is the relevance of that comment?” I think to myself.) After she gained that validation, she then c...

Music serves many purposes in our lives, some of which have already been explained in weeks past. Aside from the fact that it helps get your mind get into the game to focus on things such as sports, there are so many more instances in our lives where music is incredibly valuable. One of these, and I would argue one of the most important, is in the car while driving or traveling. Just take a moment to think. Try to remember a time where you drove somewhere and did not have your music blasting to kill the time. This is hardly ever the case. Music is a great way to “pass the time” when sitting in a car, unable to do anything else but drive. It makes time pass by faster and takes the dread of sitting in traffic for hours and hours on end away almost completely. Take it from someone who knows exactly what this is like. Living in the Los Angeles area and commuting back and forth to school certain days of the week, I find myself sitting on the 210 freeway in traffic. Music during this...

Our millennium has adapted to a wide range of music that they listen to on repeat. Everyone has a different taste of what good music is to them and what they enjoy. It may also change based on what their feelings are or what kind of mood they are in. For some people when they're on their way to work or getting ready they might want to listen to some country artist such as Luke Bryan or Tim McGraw. On the other hand, they may need to listen to Kendrick Lamar’s new song Humble to start their day off right. For me, I like to listen to a variety of genres including country, latin pop, hip hop, r&b, and rap. It all just depends on what kind of mood I’m in. I would say for most athletes they need music to pump them up and get them ready. Athletes get their headphones ready, charge up their phone and put on their game day playlist. I can almost guarantee that every athlete either has a playlist that they listen to as...

About three weeks ago Drake released another album called “More Life.” More life has been number one on the charts since he has released it. But this was not a typical album that we are used to from the talented rapper. Drake structured this album as a playlist. In an interview he commented that it was just music that he liked and wanted to put out for the fans. It was just what he was feeling at the time. This is one of the reasons you get slower/R&B songs like Get It Together, Madiba Riddim, Passionfruit, and Blem. You also get songs that are more trap music and Drake surprises us with a spin having U.K. rappers on the album such as Giggs and Skepta. More Life has, in my opinion, more hype songs that you could use for pregame music or even a gym playlist. Of course Drake has a feature with one of the hottest rapper out Quavo on song Portland. Young Thug ended up being a feature on two songs while 2 Chainz and Travis Scott were also on one. Drake also has features w...
